These two speeches both have some similarities and some differences. The Nobel Lecture speech talks about the importance of language and how it can be used in many different beautiful ways and she tries to tell us how in the speech. In the This Is Water speech Wallace tries to get us to change our ways of thinking, to view every possible possibility for a persons actions. For similarities both of these speeches want us to change our ways of thinking. For example, in the speech This Is Water Wallace tries to get you to understand other people might have bigger problems than you and he tries to get you to understand that its not all about you. In the part that the fat lady that yelled at her kid in line, we would automatically assume she's a mean lady, but like Wallace stated "Maybe she has been up for three straight nights holding the hand of her husband who's dying of bone cancer." We as humans are pretty self-centered, but Wallace points that out & tries to change our thought process. In the Nobel Lecture Toni tries to get us to reevaluate the way we use language by using a blind women as the main character because all a blind women has is language to experience life & communicate.
