Going with prompt number three

These speeches were very moving and thought provoking you can see that the audience is directly addressed in the Nobel lecture in an indirect way she uses the old wise woman to express how she feels about the English language hoping to inspire the people there to not let it die and not let ignorance limit the knowledge and intricate things we can do with language. Morrison wants her audience to understand that language as necessary for life as air and water and only we as the younger generation can guide it to higher places and advance us further. While in What is water Wallace address's his audience as direct as he could saying that life is going to have plenty of things that will "get in your way" and how our default as humans is to see ourselves as the center and everyone else is just a bystander in our world. He gives important things to live by not to be stagnant staying "conscious" is to be aware of what is going on around you not just focusing on yourself or your immediate needs. Both excerpts serve as a reminder that we are young and the path in front of us will be demanding and it depends on us to make the changes needed.

  1. I agree, both of these authors had some deep self thinking moments about life and how we are suppose to think about it. In the Nobel lecture she has this creative way in taking the simplest thing and creating it in to a life meaning lesson. This is big because it reminds us that we are in charge of the future (the youth) given from “the old wise lady” before us, it’s up to us to expand the knowledge for future generations to come. But when it comes to Wallace and his saying of everyone goes to default mode which is to become self centered and that it’s hard to care for others is wrong. There are many people out there in the world that help others without any kind of merit.
