A world without words
A world without words is very hard to come by. Jill Bolte Taylor says that language doesn't not just have to be talking out loud. Without that voice that gets you out of trouble half of that time, how can you get through at least a day. Not everyone is the same with there little voice thats in there head. Your voice can have a totally different opinion that mine. Thats why its so important to have that little voice. Now lets image if we didn't have that voice, we would be hopeless and probably wont know what to do. If you think about it our mind, thoughts, and feeling all are in our little voice inside us. Like I tried to put my self in Jill's shoes and pretend that I didn't have a little voice in mean biut i cant image how that feels whats so ever.

The lack of inner voice doesn’t mean that we lose our purpose in life or that we are left without direction, rather we aren’t thinking about it. We wouldn’t be preoccupied in searching for life’s purchase or trying to find direction, we would just go and experience everything as it is revealed to us. Our thoughts and feelings are not products of the little voice in our head, they are the opposite. The little voice in our head is a reflection upon our thoughts and feelings. Without the little voice we would still experience emotion such as joy as Taylor had stated she did, there just would be no reflection on what has been experienced.
ReplyDeleteI disagree and say that the voices in our head are a cluttered mess. We all think in different ways and I believe without voices in our head, creativity is evolved. We give ourselves different pathways to believe in our opinion what nature is. What is beautiful to them? I feel without voices in our head, we can relate to nature and feel still inside. People become one and really embrace themselves in nature as apart of it. Imagine just being still and being lifeless and how calm it would be. I believe it creates a time to release ourselves from the world for a second.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with your opinion of feeling hopeless and lost without a language and the voices in our mind. I believe that you are missing the arguement that Jill Bolte Taylor was trying to make. When Jill B. Taylor said she "lost all definition of [herself] in relation to everything in the external world" she meant that she was freer to see the world without it revolving around herself. Losing herself, in this sense, benefited her well-being because she could start connecting with the world in a deeper way. She then agrees with Jad Abumrad’s statement that “the silence that she loved so much got pushed out.” It was only when language was forced back to her that she felt a loss. It is truly impossible to even to try fathom a world without language because that is all you have ever known.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you when you say that it is important to have that little voice in your head. That is what diversifies us and creates different opinions and ways to thing about a specific situation. I do also believe that it is very hard to try and put yourself in her shoes and try to imagine a world without that voice. It would be extremely hard to think, that is if you can think at all. One of my role models is Temple Gradin and she explains how she “thinks in pictures”. Which is what I really feel like it would be like if you did not have a way of talking to yourself. You would have to associate different things you see with different things that you have seen before. This would be almost like a big matching game in your head, just so that you can have some form of thought.

ReplyDeleteI disagree with you when speaking of our inner voices. Usually our inner voices are what distract us from being ourselves. We tend to overthink which leads us to have those little voices. Having no inner thoughts could possibly bring out the true beauty of a person. A person usually makes decisions based on that little voice. Without it originality would come out as well. Many things would change. Maybe there could even be world peace. No more inner thoughts means pure happiness. You don't have things to be overstressed about or that little voice telling you every 5 seconds what you have to do. It'll all be gone. Everyone being at peace with themselves could lead to a peaceful place.
ReplyDeleteI disagree if there is a will there is away. If you cant speak or don't have the little person speaking your deepest thoughts. you will find some way that you can create a language. to communicate. the prime example is the death children experiment and how over time the kids made new words from actions and then it evolved to feelings and i feel its crazy that there was no language but only words. then over time people wanted to communicate but they had to create something new. so if there is a will theirs a way.
