Jill Bolte Taylor seemed rather content when the voice in her head became silent. Taylor described the situation as a relaxing moment. All the stress went away along with the voices, Taylor said. Although Taylor's situation was occuring due to a stroke, when the thought process of her brain shut down,  Taylor felt more "lighter" and happier than she did before. Taylor even felt dissapointed once the world she lived in was once again filled with language. Personally, I would feel joyful if the voices or language in my head went away. The constant flow of thoughts produced by the brain is what causes stress and emotional issues. Having that constant flow of voices make individuals have second thoughts,  cause individuals to overthink, and cause confusion within an individual's head. From the moment we wake up, thoughts are already buzzing in our head. Thoughts like, "It's too early to be up" or "this bed is so comfortable. " Complete silence within the head gives people such as Taylor a clear view of things as well as prevents the brain from working too hard. I don't know about you guys, but I would rather live on a secluded countryside than in a densely populated city.

  1. I agree that a mind clear of voices would be enjoyable. The seclusion of the countryside is by far better than that of the city. But it’s a completely different story to lose the blessing of hearing and become isolated from the world you once knew. Sound is a wonderful beauty of nature. To never hear another melody, or the voice of a loved one sounds heartbreaking. I would not wish such misfortune on any soul. I find a scene of comfort in the company of sound, be it just the sound of the wind blowing through the leave of the tree i sit under.

  2. I understand the view of that with your inner voice gone your mind becomes a more open and free place, but in the same instance it would be a vast empty place. With the loss of your inner dialogue can you even think at that point, all are thoughts are read back to us, and with that gone would one even be able to keep on living because you've lost the person most close to you, you. The loss of your inner voice would be helpful for people suffering from mental illness, example is one has depression you constantly are fighting the voice in your head saying that you are worthless and a burden to all around you, and that you should just end it because no one would care if you disappeared, and to be able to expel that voice would be a blessing a gift from god that you are finally released of that terrible voice.
On the other hand its that voice in your head is what gets you through the day your consulting with your self on day-to-day activities. personally I would be lonely not because im with out the company of another human being but because im without the company of myself.

  3. I think about everything. I am constantly thinking and There is not a moment in the day that I'm not thinking, unless I'm asleep. A world without an inner voice and all those thoughts is unimaginable. It is true that that voices could lead to stress and worry because of over thinking but it could also result in relief, happiness, and even peace. The inner voice in my mind is my conscience, the voice of reason and logic. It keeps me aware of everything around me and it gets me through every situations im i . If I didn't have my thoughts I would probably feel "stranded" like Robert mentioned. Yes I might feel energy and emotions and lighter without the voice but I wouldn't be aware of reality. I wouldn't be able to speak to myself about what's going on, what I'm feeling, or what i need to do. I don't know about any body else but that kind of freaks me out.

  5. Sometimes bad situations may spawn a good outcome. In Jill Bolte Taylor's situation, a stroke, causing a multitude of brain function problems, leaves Taylor incapable of having actions weighed out within her mind. Without all the Clutter she has a chance to enjoy herself even describing her new found silence as "relaxing." The brain is a complex language center making thousands of decisions and thoughts throughout the day; and as you can imagine, this internal dialogue is very important in order to process events within the mind. If you were to have your brains thought process shut down, you would feel more mellowed and relaxed, but it would be hard for you to weigh out decisions in your head before making them (Kind of like a teenager). Although "secluded country sides" are nice every once in a while, the brain needs to run at its full thought potential in order to keep healthy activity within itself. The world is a scary place that takes a lot to fit in, and if you couldn't find a way to process your world I think it would be hard to make something of yourself.

  6. I couldn't possibly imagine a world without an inner voice. I use it to analyze everything I see and do. The world would be so one-sided without it. Thinking helps relieve stress and to find a way to make things better just by processing in your head. It will lead to greater things, artists use it to find inspiration for new songs and it just kind of happens thought the day by thinking. I’m sure every great inventor came up with their inventions just by thinking about something and how it could be improved. To me an inner voice is essential to one’s life.
